Mecklenburg Railway Company

The Mecklenburg Railway Company was founded in 1845 to build a railway from Hagenow to Rostock and after Güstrow. It was nationalized in 1873 and combined with the Friedrich- Franz Railway.

History

With the planning of the Prussian railway line between Berlin and Hamburg in 1841, the projects for its own route network became more concrete in Mecklenburg -Schwerin. On February 25, 1846, the last year founded Schwerin Wismarsche Railway Company, Hagenow, Schwerin and Rostock Railway Company and the Güstrow Bützower Railway Company combined the Mecklenburg Railway Company. On March 10, 1846, the company won the concession to build a railway from Hagenow about Schwerin to Wismar and over bath small, Biitzow to Rostock and Güstrow.

On May 1, 1847 section between Hagenow and Schwerin was put into operation. On 12 July 1848, the track was completed to Wismar. On May 13, 1850 finally took place the opening of routes to Rostock and Güstrow.

The income situation of the company was positive. At times, a dividend of up to 13.5 % was paid. After the Franco-German War and the Empire Bismarck was anxious to found a kingdom railway. As in other German states intended the Mecklenburg Government to nationalize the private railways. Effective April 20, 1873, the Mecklenburg Railway Company was purchased and integrated into the newly created Grand-Ducal -Friedrich- Franz Railway. At this time, the Company owned 27 locomotives.
