Mecklenburg-Vorpommern cuisine

The Mecklenburg cuisine is generally considered a more down to earth and hearty. In it, on the one hand reflect the long-standing poverty, the lands of Mecklenburg, as well as the long Baltic Sea coastline and the abundance of inland waters. In addition, thanks to the vast forests an abundance of game dishes. A particularly important role to play here in the region also called taters potatoes ( also bears witness to the existence of a potato museum in the adjacent Western Pomerania) in various preparation methods, kale and the sweet-sour flavor, produced for example by baking fruit. All these points have the kitchen in Mecklenburg than typical northeastern German. Although Mecklenburg Western Pomerania and had a long, independent historical development, the similarity of the conditions of life and landscapes in both parts of the country today has led to the fact that similar dietary habits greatly.

Karl Julius Weber reported in the 18th century about the eating habits of the Mecklenburg: "The people lived mostly on potatoes, of withered fruit, white cabbage, turnips and horse beans ".
