Mecklenburg XVIII

In the genus XVIII the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Friedrich- Franz Railway ranked one of the two Doberan - Heiligendamm railway narrow gauge locomotives ( DHE ) guarantees.

With the opening of the 6.6 kilometer- long railway line from Doberan to Heiligendamm, the DHE procured two tramway locomotives. Especially the long roads through Doberan made ​​the purchase of such equipment makes sense. The locomotives were numbered 1 and 2 were made with the 1890 nationalization, they received the numbers 1001 and 1002. Soon it became apparent that the locomotives were not cope with the rise in traffic. The locomotives were only able to draw a three-car train. So in 1891 and 1898, the locomotives of Class XIX were procured. The Trambahnloks were retired in 1916.

Constructive details

The constructed as a box locomotives vehicles had an outer sheet metal frame in the center of the water tank was located. The two wet steam engines were lying inside, the slanted cylinder acted on the rear coupled axle. The entire chassis was disguised. To cushion lying on the axle bearings leaf springs were installed. The boiler was located lying. The fire hole was positioned on the right side. To keep the harassment during the passage of Doberan low, the exhaust steam was passed through a tube steam condenser on the roof. The cab was positioned on the right side and could be used because of the good visibility for forward and reverse travel. The reversal of the Joy- control with crossed eccentric rods was carried out with a lever.
