Mecosta County, Michigan

Mecosta County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat), Big Rapids.

Geography

The County lies to the west of the geographic center of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Mecosta County in the west, about 80 km from Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes and has an area of ​​1479 square kilometers, of which 40 square kilometers are water surface. History

Mecosta County was formed in 1840 from parts of Mackinac County and Oceana County. It was named after Mecosta, an Indian chief.
