Médaille militaire

The Military Medal ( Médaille militaire double ) was donated by the President of the Second French Republic Louis- Napoléon Bonaparte on 22 January 1852, and can be awarded to non-commissioned officers and men of the armed forces who have distinguished themselves through courageous efforts or were wounded in battle. You may be given as in the French military service standing foreigners and members of the French merchant fleet. Also an award to units that have distinguished themselves in combat is possible. It is mounted on top of the flag, the soldiers of this unit have the right to wear the uniform of the corresponding ( yellow-green ) Fourragère.

In very exceptional cases, it may be awarded to marshals and commanding generals.

The award is a silver-gilt medal, which hangs on a trophy. It shows the symbolic woman head of the republic with the inscription REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE ( French Republic ) on a blue background, surrounded by a silver laurel wreath. On the back the inscription VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE ( bravery and discipline ).

Born is the award to a yellow ribbon with green border stripes on the left chest.
