Medak district

Medak ( Telugu: మెదక్ జిల్లా ) is one of 23 districts in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The administrative center is the city Sangareddi.

Geography

The district is in the northwest of Andhra Pradesh. It is to the west by the state of Karnataka, in the north of the district Nizamabad, in the northeast and east by the District Rangareddy, framed to the east by the district Nalgonda, in the southeast of the districts of Guntur and Prakasam and in the south by the Kurnool District.

The district has an area of ​​9700 km 2 and is one of the area the smaller districts in Andhra Pradesh ( 3.5 % of the area of Andhra Pradesh ). 906 km 2 of the area is forested (9.3 percent). The most important rivers in the district are manjira, Haldi and Kundliar.

Climate

The climate of the district is characterized by hot summer and in general dry except during the monsoon season. March to May is the summer time with a severe drought and high temperatures. The southwest monsoon from the second week of June until the second week of October brings the most plentiful rain. The northeast monsoon subsequent to the end of December brings somewhat lower, but still significant amounts of rain. During the months of January and February is winter with cooler temperatures. The long-term average rainfall is 1001 mm per year. The southwest monsoon brings 708 mm and the northeast monsoon 105 mm. Otherwise falls only a little rain. The coldest month is January ( average 21.59 ° - day minimum 15 °, maximum 28 °), the warmest May (average 32.44 ° - 26 ° Minimum, maximum 39 °). During the monsoon season there is a humidity of up to 80 percent. This falls in the dry season to 30 percent.

Population

At the last census 2011 3.031.877 inhabitants were counted. Of these, 1,524,187 were men ( 50.3 percent) and 1.50769 million women. Among the Dalits were 2001 469.492 ( 17.6 percent), the Adivasi 134 533 (5.0 per cent) people. Of the total number of inhabitants lived 2011 728.121 persons ( 24 percent) in urban areas. The majority of the population of the district Medak speaks Telugu. In the whole district there are 1,225 inhabited villages.

Demographics

As everywhere in India is growing, the population of the district Medak decades strongly. Significant places

Strongest town inhabitants of the district is Siddipet with about 60,000 residents. Other important cities with over 50,000 inhabitants are the main town Sangareddi and Ramachandrapuram.

Economy

The majority of the population is employed in agriculture. Mainly sorghum ( sorghum), rice, cotton, maize, pigeon peas, chilli, sesame seeds and sugar cane are grown. In addition, hand weaving is an important industry. There are in the whole district, only 300 industrial companies, mainly in the fields of chemical and pharmaceutical products and steel. In mineral resources one can find different types of rocks ( limestone, granite, etc.) and sand, which are used industrially. In the cities, people live from trade in goods and services.

History

Medak is part of the Telangana region and shares its history. Previously, the area under the name Methukudurgam and Siddapura Medak was known. By 1956, the area was a region in the Hyderabad State. Since then, Medak is an administrative unit within the then newly created State of Andhra Pradesh.

Management

The district comprises 45 Mandals of Medak ( talukas ) and 1,225 inhabited villages.

Politically the district is now divided into the three control districts Medak, Sangareddi and Siddipet.
