Median bayreuth is a German basketball team, which was founded in 1999 as a BBC Bayreuth. The team belongs to the basketball club BBC Bayreuth eV, the matches of this team was spun off in the BBC Bayreuth Game Operating GmbH 2002.

History

The beginnings

There were several clubs or teams, while legally had no connection to the BBC Bayreuth, but predecessor of the club or the team were before 1999. The Post SV Bayreuth 1975 was a founding member of the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga and managed after the premiere season promotion to the National Basketball League. In 1979, the basketball department separated, however, from the club and was refounded as USC Bayreuth. 1983, the club was renamed the USC Olympic Bayreuth because of the sponsor Aritex. After the 1983/1984 season we got off from the basketball league.

It was followed by the merger with the former table tennis national league TTBG Steiner-Optik Bayreuth for new club BG Steiner Bayreuth. The following year the club was financially supported mainly by the patrons and Carl Horst Steiner (owner of a optics company ). It rose after a season right back on the basketball league. The club was founded in 1988, now occurring only under Steiner Bayreuth, German Basketball Cup winners and 1989 German champion and cup winner. 1992 it rose again from the athletic basketball league from, but could return in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga after a successful season.

Insolvency and sporting a new beginning

In 1997, the longtime sponsor Steiner separated from the club and was called to order in Basket Bayreuth. However, due to financial problems, the club also came in sporting the crisis. It increased from 1999 and dragged on before the season starts from the second basketball league in the Regional back. There, the club BBC Bayreuth newly founded took over the operation of gambling, the old club Basket Bayreuth was settled and resolved in October 2002 formally. The first team was outsourced to the BBC Bayreuth Game Operating GmbH 2002.

Promotion to the first basketball league

On 4 April 2010, the BBC Bayreuth the Double A secured promotion to the first basketball league and winning the championship in the Pro on April 10, 2010 as well as winning the DBB Cup on May 2, 2010 in the second highest German league. In the first year in the BBL after more than a decade Unterklassigkeit relegation could be achieved. During the NBA lockout was briefly an application of the Oklahoma City Thunder player Kevin Durant in Bayreuth in conversation. With the end of the lockout early December 2011, the plans were set, however.

As of January 1, 2013 Marko Beens started working in Franconia and followed Manfred Schöttner as managing director of the Beko Basketball Bundesliga after. Marko Beens was the first full-time manager in the history of BBC Bayreuth. However, the cooperation with Beens ended a few months later in May 2013. March 25, 2013 to the Serbian Predrag Krunic became the new head coach of the BBC Bayreuth. Previously, the club from the previous coach Marco van had separated the mountain after a sporting descent. Krunic initially signed a contract until the summer of 2013, to be extended in the league until 2014. On the penultimate day of the BBC managed to avoid relegation by a 86:71 win at the Central German BC. From the 2013/14 season, the first team will accrue under the name medi bayreuth, derived from the main sponsor medi.

On December 29, 2013 on leave medi bayreuth their coach Predrag Krunic due to poor sporting cutting in the season so far. Up until the time of leave Bayreuth won only three of 15 games. As the successor to Michael Koch was signed, which was from 1987 to 1991 worked as a basketball player at Steiner Bayreuth.

Bayreuth Bats is sponsor and fan club of the BBC Bayreuth. On the basis of the traditional Bayreuth basketball history, the fan club promoting basketball has prescribed. In addition to direct work with fans, the fans support the professional and amateur sports team again financially.
