Media access unit

A multistation access unit (MAU or MSAU ) forms in Token Ring computer networks a multistation access unit to which the stations are connected, ie the interface on the side of the network medium ( cable) to the stations.

A station is not connected to the token ring, bridging a MAU, this station, as the ring structure must not be interrupted.

Multistation access units are usually integrated into the network cards.

In IBM terminology, we call this ring line distributor also Wire Center.
