Media Resource Control Protocol
Media Resource Control Protocol (in short: MRCP ) is a standard of the IETF for access to voice software in distributed systems and the Internet. The protocol allows the remote control and external control of language resources.
It defines the exchange of voice and control information in client - server environments.
MRCP is used to transmit the control information, while other protocols, such as RTSP ( Real-Time Streaming Protocol) or RTP (Real-Time Transport Protocol) to define the voice transmission.
Advantages of MRCP
- Uniformity
- Simplification of the architecture
- Bridges to the Internet
- Vendor independence and possible combinations of different recognizer
MRCP can be used for the following software
- Speech recognition
- Speech synthesis
- Speaker verification
- Voice Recording
