MediaGX

The Cyrix CPUs MediaGX was the first x86 CPU, which originated as a SoC design. The basis for the Cyrix 5x86 processor was taken and additionally integrated functions of the Northbridge and other system components such as a memory controller and a graphics chip in the processor.

National Semiconductor, the parent company of Cyrix, strongly focused on these SoC chips and so the division was not sold together even after the re- purchase of Cyrix to VIA Technologies, but the development was continued under the new name Geode. The MediaGX is thus the basis for the current Geode SoCs.
