Medicina

Medicina is an Italian municipality with 16 838 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Bologna.

The origin of the name is unknown (Medicina is the Italian word for medicine, as well as for science, " medicine" ) was what long speculated. According to legend, it is said that Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, as he drove from Milan by Medicina, became ill and subsequently by a snake that had accidentally slipped into the saucepan his soup, miraculously recovered. However, it was proven that the name comes from an even older era as Barbarossa, although the emperor really was staying in the resort. To commemorate this legend is celebrated every year the " Festa del Barbarossa " in September.

In Medicina ( in the village of Fiorentina) there is a 32 meter measuring radio telescope in Noto, Sicily. It is headed by the Istituto di Radioastronomia di Bologna and was built by the CNR today a member of the INAF.
