Medicine Lake (Alberta)

Medicine Lake is a lake in Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada, 20 km southeast of the town of Jasper. It lies at an altitude of 1,436 m above sea level, is seven kilometers long and is located in the Maligne Valley watershed.

The lake is part of the Maligne River, which is naturally dammed between Maligne Lake and Athabasca River at the end of Medicine Lake and flows into one of the largest underground river systems of the Earth. The water level of the lake fluctuates mainly fed by glaciers clearly in the seasonal cycle. In summer, when the melt water inflow exceeds the possible runoff, it reaches its highest water levels.
