Mediterranean sea (oceanography)
Mediterraneans are great addition to waters of the oceans that lie between continents.
On Earth, there are the following Mediterraneans:
- European Mediterranean between Africa, Asia and Europe, a marginal sea of the Atlantic Ocean
- Black Sea between Asia and Europe, a marginal sea of the European Mediterranean
- Marmara Sea between Asia and Europe, a marginal sea of the European Mediterranean
- Arctic Mediterranean between America, Asia and Europe. Also known as the Arctic Ocean or the Arctic Ocean.
- Australasian Mediterranean Sea between Asia and Australia, a marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean
- Red Sea between Africa and Asia. However, due to its much smaller size, it is usually only as an inland sea of the Indian Ocean.
- American Mediterranean when northern, (Central ) and South America considered as a single continent. Applies otherwise than marginal sea. A marginal sea of the Atlantic Ocean.
The Caspian Sea between Europe and Asia is not Mediterranean, but a lake as it is completely surrounded by land.
