Medovukha

Medowucha (Russian Медовуха ) is an old Russian alcoholic beverage with a distinctive spicy- sweet honey taste. The name " Medowucha " is derived from " med" or " mead ", which means in Russian (as well as in many other Slavic languages), "honey".

The preparation of Medowucha done by fermentation of dilute berries or fruit juices at a later addition of honey and alcohol. The alcohol content of classical Medowucha varies depending on the variety in the range of about 10 to 16 percent; but there are also non-alcoholic Medowucha. Through the fermentation forms - similar to traditional Russian soft drink kvass - carbonic acid, which gives it the Medowucha typical tingling.

The " hometown" of Medowucha is Suzdal, an old Russian town, where there is the most famous throughout Russia for centuries and traditional manufacturing operation of Medowucha. In Soviet times largely fallen into disuse, has the " Суздальский медоваренный завод " ( Susdalski medowarenny zavod, the " Suzdal honey factory" ) taken recently with massive production of bottled Medowucha a niche market. Suzdal Medowucha is now widely available in Russia and will be successfully sold in several different varieties, which differ primarily in the alcohol content.
