Medyka

Medyka is a village located in powiat Przemyski in the Subcarpathian Voivodship, Poland. It is also the seat of the rural commune ( gmina wiejska ).

Geography

Medyka is located about ten kilometers east of Przemysl on the Polish- Ukrainian border. There is also a large border crossing with Ukraine on the Droga Krajowa is 28

History

Traces suggest that was already inhabited in the Bronze Age the area. Coins found evidence trade relations with the Roman Empire. The coins are from the time of Emperor Hadrian, Antoninus Pius. These trade relations came with the migration of nations to a standstill. Nearby ostslavische tribe of Chorvaten were established. From the eleventh to the thirteenth century Medyka was part of Kievan Rus after the death of Yaroslav the sage fell apart into separate principalities. Under Casimir the Great Medyka its town charter. A first mention as " Medyce " dates from the year 1403. In the fifteenth century was in place a wooden castle, this was in 1542 rebuilt and reinforced. On the ruins of the castle, a palace was built in the late eighteenth century. Today only get leftovers from the palace and the castle. Over the following centuries, the plant fell in the second half of the eighteenth century Medyka had 1101 inhabitants. 1772 Medyka to Austria and became part of Galicia. 1831 a school of garden design has been established.

After the war Medyka came only in 1948 with Poland.

From 1975 to 1998, the village belonged to the Province of Przemysl.

The municipality has a surface area of 60.0 km ². 82 % of its territory is used for agriculture, 1% is covered by forest.
