Mehrangarh Fort

Mehrangarh is the name of a fortress in the north- western Indian state of Rajasthan. Situated on a 123 meter high rock, it towers over the city of Jodhpur and is connected with it by a up the mountain to overcome five-kilometer road.

Construction has begun simultaneously with the city of Jodhpur founded in 1459 by Roa Jodha. Large parts of the preserved buildings date from the period of Maharaja Jaswant Singh ( 1638-1678 ).

The fort is still in the possession of the descendants and was inhabited until 1943 by the royal family.

The plateau has three areas: the palace in the northwest, a large terrace to the east of the palace and the heavily fortified part of the south.
