Meidum is an ancient Egyptian necropolis and location of the Meidum Pyramid, built by Pharaoh Sneferu.

Buildings

Some mastaba buildings from the early 4th Dynasty is known:

  • The Mastaba No. 17, grave of an unknown prince,
  • The Mastaba No. 16, the grave of Rahotep (son of Sneferu ), General and High Priest of Re and his wife Nofret ( here its perfectly preserved statues were found, which can be admired in the Museum Cairo Today)
  • The Mastaba No. 6, the grave of Sneferu 's son Nefermaat ( architect of the Meidum pyramid ) and his wife Itet. Famous the so-called geese frieze of this mastaba is (now in the Cairo Egyptian Museum ) and the artistically valuable, rarely encountered paste reliefs.

The necropolis was still used in the New Kingdom and Late Period.
