Meierskappel

Meier Kappel ( Chappu dialect ) is a municipality in the constituency Lucerne Land of the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Geography

Meier Kappel is located on the foothills of the Rooterbergs and borders as the only municipality in Canton Lucerne at the Lake Zug. The municipality covers an area of 923 ha, of which 69 ha settlement area, 425 ha of agricultural land and 180 ha of forest (as of 2009 ). Meier Kappel includes the vilage Dorfli Oberbuonas, Dietisberg, Böschenrot, Ländiswil, Brünnismatt, Laubbach and Robmatt.

The highest point of the municipality is located at 795 m asl on Rooterberg, the deepest Lake Zug to 413 m asl

Neighboring communities are the towns Root and Udligenswil, in the Canton train the municipality of Risch and in the canton of Schwyz Küssnacht the municipality in the canton of Lucerne.

Population

The population fluctuated from 1850 to 1970 in the range of 500 to 600 residents. By 1990, it grew rapidly to just over 1,000 indwelling. On 31 December 2013, the congregation counted 1,356 people. The annual increase was in the last two years, around 50 people or approximately 4%.

Languages

Most people and many enter German as their native language, which is spoken of highly Alemannic dialect.

Religions - faiths

The majority of the population belongs to the Roman Catholic Church. Religious minorities are the Evangelical Reformed Christians, Muslims and members of Christian free churches.

Of the 1,356 people and many end of 2013 were 1,200 Swiss citizens and nationals.

Policy

In the elections to the cantonal parliament, the cantonal parliament, the parties reached in 2011 following voter shares: SVP 40.16 percent, 17.63 percent CVP, FDP 12.7 percent, 10.22 percent SP, Green Alliance 9.7 percent, GLP 5.8 percent and 3.77 percent BDP.

Economy

Although no longer dominant, agriculture still represents a significant proportion of the labor force, namely 27.6 percent. Business and industry are represented 41.3 percent of the workforce, the service sector at 31.3 (as of 2008 ).

Traffic

Meier Kappel is served by the postal bus Lucerne Red Cross to the public transport network. The nearest railway station is the one in the neighboring municipality of Risch-Rotkreuz Zug. The nearest motorway junction in Küssnacht is about 2 kilometers away.

History

A Franconian Meier from Cham to have given the contract to build a chapel in the 7th century. Hence the name " Meier Kappel ". Secured the insinuation of a chapel under the pen Regula and Felix in Zurich in the year 858 Meier Kappel fell in 1244 to the Bishop of Constance, in 1271 at the Monastery Zurich and 1306 to the House of Habsburg. Finally acquired the city of Lucerne in 1406 the village. In Meier Kappel battles took place: in 1798 during the invasion of the French in Switzerland and in 1847 during the special covenant war.

In recent years, Meier Kappel is increasingly becoming a place of residence for employees from neighboring communities Risch and Küssnacht. The close connection after Risch -Rotkreuz led in 2005 to vote on an inter-cantonal fusion, but failed at the No -driven population.

Train

In the community center " Hoefli " primary school and kindergarten are housed. The high school is located in Risch -Rotkreuz.

Attractions

The hilly, wooded headland Chiemen that juts into the lake of Zug, and the area around the Grand Cross ( 794 m above sea level. M. ) are the largest natural beauties. Also worth seeing is the Catholic village church "To our Lady ", the tower was built in 1440. The nave was built in 1684 and extended in 1878. 2011, the church was renovated. Other attractions include the village fountain, dedicated to the Meier Kappeler local poet Ignaz Kronenberg, and the group farmhouse in the hamlet of "Behind Pichten ", which is a listed building.
