Meilie District

Meilie (Chinese梅列 区) is a district of the prefecture-level city of Sanming in Fujian province, China. Meilie is the city center and the seat of the municipal government of Sanming. The municipality is located in the hinterland of the province on the railway line to Xiamen (distance: 334 km ) along the middle reaches of the Shaxi.

Meilie has an area of 352 km ² and around 140,000 inhabitants ( end of 2004). The municipality has a gross domestic product of 6.4 billion yuan. The GDP per capita was 23,027 yuan, and is significantly above the average for the province of Fujian.

Meilie is an important heavy industry. The regional or here iron and steel factory Sanming, with more than 12,000 employees, the largest company in Fujian. There are also electrical, mechanical, chemical, textile, building materials, electronics and other businesses.
