Meinhard is a municipality in the Werra- Meißner-Kreis in Hesse, Germany, which has its administrative headquarters in Grebendorf.

Geography

Meinhard is located in the north Hessian mountain at the edge of the Werra Valley, barely 3 km north of the county town of Eschwege. To the north rises the Gobert.

In Meinhard - Frieda Frieda joins the Werra. On the Meinhard Jestädt opposite shore the weirs Werra flows into the Werra.

Neighboring communities

Meinhard is bordered to the northeast and east by the municipalities Volkerode, Pfaffschwende, Kella and Geismar (all four in the Thuringian district Eichsfeld ), in the southeast on the town Wanfried, in the south and west by the city of Eschwege, and in the northwest of the town of Bad Sooden- Allendorf (all three in the Werra- Meißner -Kreis).

The municipality comprises the seven districts Frieda, Grebendorf ( council offices ), Hitzelrode, Jestädt, Neuerode, Motzenrode and Schwebda.

History

Incorporations

On 31 December 1971 the municipality Meinhard was newly formed by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Frieda, Grebendorf, Jestädt and Schwebda. On April 1, 1972 Hitzelrode, Motzenrode and Neuerode were added.

Policy

Mayor

Mayor Hans Giller (SPD ) was re-elected on 2 December 2007 with 89.1 % of the vote, he had no rival candidates. The turnout was 39.0 %.

Economy and infrastructure

Industry

The largest employer in the village is the friedola Gebr Holzapfel GmbH in the district Frieda.

Tourism

At the Marine Park in Schwebda is access to Werratalsee. Due to the congregation of the Werra cycle path. The district Hitzelrode is the starting point for many hikes. There, the premium hiking P4 runs.

Traffic

Through the municipality runs the main road 249 in section Eschwege - Mühlhausen.

Through the municipal area the Kanonenbahn was in the section Leinefelde- Treysa. The Schwebda railway station was a railway junction, branching off to the to 1945 the railway line Heiligenstadt Schwebda and the railway line Schwebda - Bardo ( Werra railway ) from the Canon web. After 1945, therefore, was the division of Germany only the route Eschwege Schwebda as well as the portion of the Werra train to Wanfried Heldra in operation, which were until 1994, gradually shut down and dismantled later. In parts of the former railway line Schwebda - Warta today runs the Werra Cycle Route.

Club Sports

The community Meinhard came in early 2014 in Germany under criticism because they local sports clubs for the use of its own community halls and places a usage fee - will abzuverlangen - " euro club ".
