Meiningen, Austria

Meiningen is a town in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg with 2082 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2013). The municipality is situated on the Rhine, the border river to Switzerland at this point.

Geography

Meiningen is located in the westernmost province of Austria, Vorarlberg, in the district of Feldkirch to 425 m above sea level. A. Height and is the westernmost town in Austria. 17.5% of the area is forested. Meiningen is immediately adjacent to the Swiss border to the upper reed in the canton of St. Gallen. There are no other local villages in Meiningen.

History

Meiningen came in 1390 with the reign of Feldkirch Austria. Originally the parishes of "Our Lady " and " St. Peter" split in Rankweil community gained independence in 1610 as a separate parish, since 1609, there is a Municipal Code. The Habsburgs ruled the areas in Vorarlberg changing of Tyrol and Further Austria from ( Freiburg im Breisgau). From 1805 to 1814, the town belonged to Bavaria, then back to Austria. For the Austrian state of Vorarlberg Meiningen heard since the foundation in 1861. The place was from 1945 to 1955 part of the French zone of occupation in Austria.

Policy

The municipal council consists of 18 members. After the 2010 election reached the list "Open Wählergemeinschaft - People's Party Meiningen " 13 seats and the " Free Wählergemeinschaft Meiningen and Freedom " five mandates. Mayor Thomas Pinter of the ÖVP.

The parish council consists of three members: Vice Mayor Heribert Zöhrer (OW -VP), municipal Edward Kessler (OW -VP), council Gerd meat (OW -VP) and municipal Thomas Gehl (FW and Freedom ). Shall be chaired by the Mayor true ( non-voting ).

The municipality revenue from taxes and other charges in 2001 were at € 1,621,294, the municipal expenditure at € 2,628,013. The debt was 2001 861.357 €.

Since May 4, 2012 a twinning with the German town of Meiningen in Southern Thuringia.

Economy and infrastructure

At the site there was in 2003, 26 companies in the industrial sector with 238 employees and six apprentices. Taxable wage -employed, there were 775 tourism and tourism are important.
