Geography

History

Regarding the emergence of Meinisberg there in the geographical lexicon of Switzerland for land sales and contracts dating from 1261 and 1321, the Historical Dictionary of Switzerland mentioned first in French and mentions 1332 as Meynesberg.

The first mention of Meinisberg took place on 5 May 1312 the name Meinosberg. The said document is currently in the State Archives in Bern.

Between 1913-1940 Meinisberg was the terminus of the narrow gauge railway Biel- Meinisberg train.
