Meitze is a municipality in Lower Saxony Wedemark with about 11 sq km area. The landscape is used mainly farmland and forestry.

Description

The townscape is dominated by the cobbled village street and many old half-timbered houses in the village. Furthermore, there are many very old and correspondingly large trees (mostly oaks ) in the village and the surrounding area. On the chimney of a building regularly nesting white storks. To the north in the direction of Elze a wind park with a total of twelve wind turbines.

History

In the course of gravel extraction were in Meitze its closure in 2003 recovered a large number of skeletal remains of the various glacial animals such as mammoth, woolly rhinoceros, horse, reindeer, giant deer and bear from the local gravel pits to and by further discoveries of stone tools ( artifacts) the presence of early man - Neanderthal - proven.

Meitze emerged at the intersection of two trade routes, the Hessenweg and the Bremerweg. At the intersection, the symbolic finds himself in the arms to Meitze formed as a well-known market town.

  • The town was first mentioned in 1330 as " Metce " documentary.

On a green escutcheon are two diagonally crossed silver wolf Fishing, above a golden bee, beneath a golden oak leaf with two acorns on the stem.

The crossed Wolf Fishing symbolize the two ancient trade routes that crossed here and at the same time the membership of the church to the former district of Burgdorf. The Bee points to the former importance of beekeeping and the oak leaf with acorns on the townscape formative old oak trees in Meitze.

Economy and infrastructure

There is a concrete block plant and a vehicle parts service on the southeastern border of Meitze. Both companies benefit from the nearby motorway.

About a kilometer away from Meitze runs the Federal Highway 7, the nearest connection point around one kilometer from the junction 52 ( Melle village). Meitze is connected by bus with Melle village and Elze / Bennemühlen.

Until 1967 Meitze had its own primary and secondary school, but this was closed for lack of pupils.
