Mel Metcalfe

Mel Metcalfe is an American sound engineer.

Life

Metcalfe began in 1981 as an employee in the sound re-recordist, his first film work was Nighthawks with Sylvester Stallone in the lead role. He worked in the 1980s for television productions and was first nominated in 1982 for an Emmy. After two further nominations he received his first Emmy in 1984 for his work on television adaptation of A Streetcar Named Desire. He received his second Emmy in the following year. In 1987 he was as sound engineer of Star Trek IV: The Voyage first nominated for an Oscar. More nominations followed in 1992 and 1993 for the Disney productions Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.

In the press Metcalfe came when in 1996 he Australian actress Portia de Rossi got married, went after it later, in his own words just a green card. The marriage ended in divorce in 1999 after Metcalfe had begun an affair with the wife of de Rossi's brother.
