Mel Renfro

Melvin Lacy Renfro ( born December 30, 1941 in Houston, Texas, USA) is an American former American football player. He has played free safety in the National Football League ( NFL) for the Dallas Cowboys and is regarded as one of the best safetys all time.

Youth / College

Renfro was born in Texas, but moved as a child with his parents to Portland, where he grew up and also based on the recommendation of a teacher in high school in 1952 with sports, especially the football games began. In 1961 he began his college studies at the University of Oregon in Eugene, where he played in the attack as a halfback at the Oregon Ducks. By 1963, he latched on to 1532 yards space gain and scored 141 points. He was elected three times to the All Star his league. Career as a player

In 1966, he should accrue as a running back again, but was injured before the season and was placed back into the defense. In his fifth year as a pro Renfro was retrained to cornerback.
