Melanie Thornton

Melanie Janene Thornton ( born May 13, 1967 in Charleston, South Carolina; † 24 November 2001 in the vicinity of Bassersdorf, Switzerland ) was an American pop, R & B and dance singer. She was best known for the successful Euro Dance Project La Bouche.

Life

Thornton grew up in Charleston and Mount Pleasant to the state of South Carolina. Even as a little girl she dreamed of one day being on the world stage before a large audience and sing. Inspired by artists such as Aretha Franklin, Roberta Flack, the Temptations and the sound of the Motown label she started at the age of six years in order to sing in front of the local mirror. At the age of eleven, she received singing lessons for the first time. During her college years she financed this by Jobs in cover bands. At times she was about four times a week on the stage of blues and jazz bars, and other clubs. Two and a half years she worked in this way before they came at the request of her sister in Germany.

Bob Chisolm, an uncle of her brother, had good contacts with German producers and musicians. This helped her in the first time with vocals for other bands ( including Groovin 'Affairs and Schnapka ) and projects over the rounds to come. With the producer Amir Saraf and Ulli Brenner 1993 she took the song Sweet Dreams on. The piece, which should be one of the greatest successes of La Bouche once, caught the attention of Frank Farian, former producer of Milli Vanilli and Boney M. With the renowned label BMG in the back, everything went very quickly: from the single climbed to Italy to the top of the charts across Europe. In its American homeland, the duo landed in the top five of the charts. Even in Japan, South America, Canada and Australia were La Bouche very successful. The initial success of the duo could still be continued for some time, but then gradually faded.

To start a solo project, Thornton ended the contract with BMG in February 2000. Thornton Sony brought England to Sony Germany, where she was taken with the Sony subsidiary X-cell Records. A first impression she left with the single Love How You Love Me The ballad was quite successful, but did not have much in common with their La Bouche - time. Appearances in many TV shows brought her face back into the spotlight. Their song Wonderful Dream ( Holidays Are Coming ) was selected for a Christmas commercial for Coca Cola. Since the spot is still shown with this background music, Wonderful Dream succeed during the Christmas season again to return to the German and Austrian single charts.
