Melbourne Beach is a city in Brevard County in the U.S. state of Florida with 3,101 inhabitants ( 2010).
Geography
Melbourne Beach is located on a barrier island on the mid-Atlantic coast of Florida, about 50 km south of Cape Canaveral. The city extends from the Atlantic coast of the at this point only about a kilometer wide Spit for landside coast on the Indian River ( an estuary, which is part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway is ).
About the Melbourne Causeway in the northern neighboring community of Indialantic Melbourne Beach is associated since 1921 with the City of Melbourne on the mainland. Other adjacent cities are Palm Bay and Melbourne.
History
Probably was Juan Ponce de León was the first European who saw this area when he landed here in 1513. Melbourne Beach is the oldest beach community in Brevard County; It was founded in 1883 by Cyrus E. Graves, a former officer of the Confederate.

21.5% of the population were younger than 20 years, 13.5 % were 20-39 years old, 34.9 % were 40-59 years old and 30.2% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 50 years. 51.1 % of the population were male and 48.9 % female.
The average annual income was $ 75,313, while 5.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 95.79 % of the population spoke Spanish 2.27% and 1.94 % had a different mother tongue.
Traffic
Through the city leads the Florida State Road A1A. The Melbourne International Airport is located around 10 km north-west.
