Melchsee -Frutt ( even the Frutt or only Melchsee called ) is a summer and winter resort in the Swiss canton of Obwalden in the municipality of Kerns in Central Switzerland.

Location
The hamlet Frutt is located at an altitude of 1,920 m above sea level. M. on a Hochalp on Melchsee. The plateau with the two lakes Melchsee Tannensee and is surrounded by mountain ranges, which almost completely circumnavigate the Hochalp.
Melchsee -Frutt can be reached from the valley town Stöckalp out all year by a gondola and in the summer on a one-lane road with traffic wechselweisem. A cableway leads further to the 2,160 m high Bonistock.
Geology
Melchsee -Frutt located in a 15 km ² large karst area. There are numerous caves, the largest of which are the bed cave with a length of 28'534 meters, Schrattenhöhle with a length of 19'645 meters and the Stäubiloch.
Tourism
Melchsee -Frutt is also used as a general term for the entire tourism region, and comprising the Stöckalp, the Bonistock that Erzegg that Balmeregghorn and the three lakes Melchsee, Tannen and Blue Lake. In the summer are popular hiking, fishing, biking, paragliding and climbing.
Several hotels, mountain lodges and holiday apartments offer accommodation. Most visitors are day-trippers.
Ski resort
The Melchsee - Frutt is located at an altitude of 1080 to 2,255 m above sea level. M. and consists of a total of 32 km of slopes in the difficulties of blue, red and black. A total of eleven tracks and a lift in operation in winter. From the valley station Stöckalp performs during the winter season in addition to the gondola lift a 2- chair lift until after Cheselen, another 2- chair lift from there to the Bettenalp. From there to the Bonistock up there is a 4-seater chairlift. From Frutt village from a rope lift takes you across the frozen lake to the other shore. There is a chair lift to Erzegg and a surface lift to Balmeregg. When Erzegg a fun park is set up and close to the village of the Fruttli country Vogelbüel for children. In addition, there are two cross-country ski runs of two and thirteen kilometers of winter hiking trails and snowshoe trails. An eight -kilometer-long toboggan run leads about 800 meters height difference from the Frutt to the valley station Stöckalp. It is thus one of the longest toboggan run in the central Switzerland. It kan only the lower four -kilometer section are selected from Cheselen.
On the frozen Melchsee ice fishing is offered.
History
In 1935, the tourism potential of the landscape has been detected on the plateau near the hamlet Frutt and around the Melchsee. A first cable car with two cabins vierplätzigen let Otto Reinhard, Reinhard owner of the hotel, built by the Stöckalp on the Frutt. Of these, in addition to agriculture and Alpbewirtschaftung also benefited the spa hotels and restaurants. Tourism increased, so that in 1945 the two 4- cabins were replaced by two 8-person cabins. This capacity increase was just enough ten years. The corporation core as the owner of the cable car commissioned Habegger AG 1956/1957 was the construction of a new cable car with 2 cabins, which bordered each 33 persons and transport 156 persons per hour.
By better opening up more sectors became attracted and the cable car was floating around at their full capacity. As early as 1976 it therefore had to be replaced again. A 4- gondola could carry 750 passengers per hour. This corresponded to a capacity increase of around 380 percent, and allowed the day tourism in a big way, especially in the winter. In 2011, a 32 meter high vertical lift was built leading from the lake to the height of the mountain. The 4 -person gondola was replaced in 2012 by a round cable car with 30 15er cabins ( nine sitting and six standing) and a capacity of 1325 people per hour. The travel time has been reduced from about 20 minutes to 10:14 minutes. The new building had begun in August 2011, on 15 December 2012, the railway was opened. Simultaneously, a parking system was introduced, with which the previously free parking and the spaces are managed in the new parking garage.
Hospitality

In 1888 the Kurhaus Reinhard was built. In the following years the hotel has been complemented with a panoramic terrace and a bowling alley. The Albert Reinhard -Bucher Hotelier installed in 1904 to use in the situated next to the hotel Stäubiloch a turbine plant to the water power. The Stäubiloch was the natural end of the Melchsees. The turbine was coupled with a 200V DC generator, which until 1954 supplied the Hotel Reinhard with electrical energy. In 1947 the hotel was renovated and expanded in the 1960s with an ice rink, was offered on the 1967 Curling. First-class hotel with 130 beds closed in 1986, the building has since been unused. In July 2012, the construction was canceled. On the area to be built by the end of 2014 a family hotel with 43 apartments and 35 rooms.
In January 2004, a fire destroyed the Sporthotel Kurhaus Frutt completely. Since the fire alarm system was not working properly, the fire was noticed late. Two hotel employees were killed and four other people were injured. As a cause of the fire is considered arson. A suspected Portuguese cuisine assistant in 2007 for lack of evidence acquitted in full. The former hotel manager and former Managing Director, however, were convicted of negligent injury easier, since they were responsible for the defective functioning of the fire alarm system. In May 2008, work began with the reconstruction of the hotel with the new name " Frutt Lodge & Spa" according to the plans of the office Lussi Halter. In December 2011, the four- star hotel with spa, two restaurants and a total of 120 beds was opened in 58 rooms and 3 suites. In addition, there are 15 condos in the building.
