Melchsee -Frutt ( even the Frutt or only Melchsee called ) is a summer and winter resort in the Swiss canton of Obwalden in the municipality of Kerns in Central Switzerland.

Location

The hamlet Frutt is located at an altitude of 1,920 m above sea level. M. on a Hochalp on Melchsee. The plateau with the two lakes Melchsee Tannensee and is surrounded by mountain ranges, which almost completely circumnavigate the Hochalp.

History

In 1935, the tourism potential of the landscape has been detected on the plateau near the hamlet Frutt and around the Melchsee. A 4- gondola could carry 750 passengers per hour. This corresponded to a capacity increase of around 380 percent, and allowed the day tourism in a big way, especially in the winter. In 2011, a 32 meter high vertical lift was built leading from the lake to the height of the mountain. The 4 -person gondola was replaced in 2012 by a round cable car with 30 15er cabins ( nine sitting and six standing) and a capacity of 1325 people per hour. The travel time has been reduced from about 20 minutes to 10:14 minutes. The new building had begun in August 2011, on 15 December 2012, the railway was opened. In January 2004, a fire destroyed the Sporthotel Kurhaus Frutt completely. Since the fire alarm system was not working properly, the fire was noticed late. Two hotel employees were killed and four other people were injured. As a cause of the fire is considered arson. A suspected Portuguese cuisine assistant in 2007 for lack of evidence acquitted in full.
