Meldal is a commune (municipality ) in the central Norwegian county Sør -Trøndelag.

The municipality covers the central part of Orkdalen, so the valley of the River Orkla, and some valleys. Council is based in the eponymous place Meldal; more settlements are Løkken Verk, Storås and Å. Å is divided to carry the claim, the shortest place name in the country with three other places with the same name.
