Meletius of Lycopolis

Meletius of Lycopolis (also: Melitius ) was Bishop of Lycopolis.

During the Diocletian persecution of Christians Meletius took over the duties of visitation Alexandrian Patriarch Petros I. of Alexandria and was detained in the course of which full and sentenced to mining operations. After the return of the now rehabilitated Petros 306 Meletius was not recognized in office, yet he was able to agree on the rigorous desired by him dealing with the lapsi the time of persecution. Meletius founded with a group of consenting confessores him a " Church of the Martyrs " and so brought about the schism Meletianische; this should not be confused with the Meletianischen schism by Meletius of Antioch.

The Meletians already presented at the time of the Council of Nicaea (325 ) to the thirty bishops and transported more significant the spread of monasticism. Larger disputes then found themselves in the tenure of Athanasius. Traces of Meletians can, however, follow through until the 8th century.
