Melissa Belote

Melissa Louise Belote ( born October 16, 1956 in Washington, DC) is a former American swimmer.

At the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, she won three gold medals. It was both the 100m and 200m backstroke as well as the 4 × 100 m medley relay Olympic champion. The following year she was then at the World Swimming Championships 1973 in Belgrade, the first world champion in the 200 m backstroke.

In 1979, she retired from swimming. In 1983, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport.
