Melissus of Crete

Melisseus, also Melissos ( ancient Greek Μελισσέυς, the "man of the Bees " ), in Greek mythology, a king of Crete.

He was also the demon of honey and the art of beekeeping. He was considered the father of the nymphs Adrasteia and Ide or Adrasteia and Cynosura or of Amalthea and Melissa, where Rhea gave the Zeuskind to share with the Curetes in the diktäischen cave there - to be educated - and thus protected from the access of Kronos.

Maybe Melisseus is equated with the Curetes same name. Since, according to a scholium to the Libraries of Apollodorus the Curetes but brothers of Adrasteia and Ide were, he would have been a son of the king.

Be the first human Melisseus brought the gods sacrifices, introduced new customs of worship and processions in honor of one of the gods. His daughter Ide said to have been eponymous for the Trojan Ida Mountains. His daughter Melissa, he made the first priestess Rhea.
