Meliti (Greek Μελίτη ( f sg ) ) is a village in the municipality of Florina in the Greek region of Western Macedonia. By 2010, it made with many surrounding villages, the community Meliti (Greek Dimos Melitis Δήμος Μελίτης ). The village was founded in 1918 recognized as a rural community Vostarani ( Βοσταράνη or Kinotita Vostaranis ), renamed in 1926 in Meliti and charged with the incorporation of numerous neighboring villages 1997 municipality ( dimos ). With the administrative reform of 2010, the municipality was incorporated into Florina and since then has been one of four municipal districts.

The municipality Meliti is south of the border to Macedonia and east of the Prespa lakes in the northwestern region of the Greek mainland. In the western part of the area landscape dominates the plain of Florina and Bitola, in the eastern part of the western and southwestern foothills of the Massif Vora. The current name of the municipality of parts and villages were in 1926 and 1928 explained by decrees of the Greek President Pavlos Kountouriotis for binding: before the vilage and towns were under a different name known (old name and year of renaming in parentheses): Meliti ( Vostarani, 1926) Vivie ( Banitsa, 1926), Neohoraki ( Neogazi, 1928), Pappa Giannis ( Papaziani or Vakufkoy, 1928), and skopos ( Ano Nevoliani, 1928) ..

Traffic

Through the district Meliti lead two national highways on a common route: the National Road 2 (Europe Road 86) and the National Road 3 (Europe Straße 65 ) extend from northwest round to the south by the municipality and leave it by the Klidi Pass. In the area of ​​Klidi pass a new route for the national roads was created which the old winding trail replaced in 2005. Before the opening of the eastern bypass of Vegoritida lake which receives the National Road 2 to Edessa and Thessalonica, the village Vivie parted west the national roads 2 and 3: the National Road 2 led eastward across Kelli ( Kella ) towards Edessa and Thessalonica, the National Road 3 after Amyndeo, Ptolemais and Kozani in the south. The territory of Meliti is crossed by the railway line opened in 1894 Thessaloniki - Edessa - Florina. The economy Melitis is traditionally dominated by agriculture. The cultivation of cereals has been mainly doing. After the discovery of extensive lignite deposits in the plain of Florina - Bitola two lignite - mining sites were created at Vivie and Achlada in the territory of the municipality. The Greek national electricity company DEI each has built on the municipal area near the village of Meliti and Achlada a lignite power plant.
