Melito di Porto Salvo

Melito di Porto Salvo is an Italian town in the province of Reggio Calabria in Calabria with 11,148 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Melito di Porto Salvo is located 32 km south of Reggio Calabria on the southern tip of Calabria. The neighboring municipalities are Montebello Ionico, Roghudi and San Lorenzo. The place consists of the districts Prunella, Lacco, Anna, Musa, Pentedattilo, Pilati, Pallica, Lembo, San Leonardo, Musupuniti.

The town is a center for tourism with its own tourist office.

Attractions

In the district Pentedattilo ruins are a castle from the Middle Ages. This castle was rebuilt in the 16th century. There are yet to see more buildings from the Middle Ages, as a church from 1564 and the ruins of a Dominican monastery. The place was abandoned due to earthquake risk.
