History

The band has found its origin in 1963 as the students Clodagh Simonds and Alison O'Donnell in Dublin at their school the group The Gatecrashers, later they changed the name to Mellow Candle. With perseverance, it was possible that in August 1968 there appeared a first single, it contained the title Feeling High and Tea With the Sun. The big success was, however. 1970 Alison O'Donnell met her future husband, the South African guitarist David Williams know who was studying at the time in Ireland. He joined the group. A little later was joined by bassist Pat Morris. 1971 the band spent with various appearances in clubs and at festivals. A talent scout from Decca noticed her and invited the group to an audition in London. The audition was successful and in April 1971 a record contract was signed. Even before the recording of the first - and as it turned out to only - album began, there were two changes in the composition of the group. Pat Morris was replaced by Frank Boylan and a native of Glasgow William Murray came new drummer in the band.

Work on the album began in December 1971 in the recording studios of Decca in London. In April 1972, the first album Swaddling appeared the single release Silver Song / Dan The Wing, then songs. Despite good reviews, neither single nor the album were commercially successful. This was followed by some performances, but in 1973 the group split for good.

The LP and the two singles are among the most sought-after rarities of the area folk rock. Meanwhile, there are several reissues on CD or LP.
