History

The Carolingian royal court Madalrichestat was the center of the Frankish Westergaues. Already in the 13th century Mellrichstadt was owned by the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg and remained there - although repeatedly pledged and redeemed again - through the centuries. After the extinction of the count's castle line of the Counts of Henneberg to 1219, the Bishop of Wurzburg, to collect associated with the Burggrafenamt fief of the Bishopric tried.
