Melrose RFC

The Melrose Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club that plays in the Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership. He is based in the Scottish Borders in Melrose.

The Melrose RFC was founded in 1877 and in 1880 a member of the Scottish Association Scottish Rugby Union since the year. In 1911 the club won the Border League, the oldest of the League Rugby Union Sports for the first time. He could repeat this success in 1939. Due to the Second World War the matches had to pause, so no further championship games were played.

1973, a national league was introduced in Scotland, at the Melrose also participates. In the early years of the club repeatedly dismounted from the first division, but rose again in each case immediately. In 1990, he was the first to win the title. More titles followed in 1992, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 1997.

The club hosted the first 7 Series Rugby Tournament history in 1883. Ned Haig, player of Melrose RFC, this variant had thought. From the club 22 national team emerged.
