Meluhha

Meluhha (also Meluhha, Meluha, Melucha or Meluchcha ) is the name of the Gujarat peninsula, taking into account the adjacent regions of North West India with inclusion of Pakistan (mountain regions of Karachi ). As a nickname Meluhha bore the name "land of carnelian ." Named in the Sumerian language according to their origin residents " Meluḫḫiter " had settled because of their trade relations including in Babylonia. Evidence of direct contacts between Meluhha and Mesopotamian areas lacking since the Ur III period.

Already at the time of Sumerian seems to have been a legendary country with which allied themselves notions of wealth and peace Meluhha. Meluhha provided, among other things in addition to tin, lapis lazuli, carnelian and gold more luxury items in the Mesopotamian areas. Sargon of Akkad described the Meluḫḫiter as " strangers and unknown birds, with monkeys, buffalo and elephant " came to Akkad. Naram -Sin reports that " Meluḫḫiter, the people of the black land, the possessions of the foreign countries / brought the foreign possessions ". Gudea describes in his Bauhymne the origin of building materials for a temple he had built for the god Ningirsu. Among other things, he reported there " Magan and Melucha collected timber from their mountains ."
