Melvin Rhyne

Melvin Rhyne ( born October 12, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana, † March 5, 2013 ) was an American organist of modern jazz.

Life and work

Originally a pianist, Melvin Rhyne began his career in 1955 in the band of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, then at various bluesmen like T -Bone Walker. He became known through his many years of involvement finally in the band of Wes Montgomery; He can also be heard at its first album for Riverside Records, Wes Montgomery Trio ( 1959). After it had become long time quiet around him, he received in December 1991, the opportunity to participate on the album At the Main Event by Brian Lynch; with the staff of the session emerged directly after the material for Rhynes first album under his own name on the Criss Cross label, The Legend of Lynch, Don Braden, guitarist Peter Bernstein and drummer Kenny Washington. During the 1990s Rhyne still recorded a number of albums for Criss Cross, where Ryan Kisor, Joshua Redman played along as a guest musician. Rhyne also worked on albums by Herb Ellis ( Roll Call ) and Eric Alexander (Eric Alexander in Europe) with as a sideman and had a joint Quartet with Ray Appleton.
