Memorial Cup

The Memorial Cup is the 1919 donated by the Ontario Hockey Association Trophy for the official Canadian junior ice hockey championship. Since the Canadian Junior A class is divided into Major Junior and Junior Minor, the Memorial Cup is regarded as most significant trophy. He was originally supposed to remind us of the many fallen Canadians in the First World War.

History

From 1919 to 1928, the Cup was played in round-trip game between an Eastern and a Western Canadian tournament winner. It was then changed to a best-of -three format, 1937, best-of -five 1942 best-of -seven. From 1972 the trophy between the masters of the three leagues in the Canadian Hockey League was played in a tournament with easy endgame. Since 1983, still attends a fourth team, that of the city, which hosts the Cup.
