Menachem Ben-Sasson

Menachem Ben- Sasson (Hebrew מנחם בן - ששון ) (born 7 July 1951, Jerusalem, Israel) is an Israeli historian and politician. For the Kadima Menahem Ben- Sasson sat as an MP from 2006 to 2009 in the Knesset. It is the successor of Menachem Magidor as president of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Biography

Menachem Ben- Sasson served in a Nahal unit in A Tzurim, a kibbutz in southern Israel, and in artillery units during his military service in the Israel Defense Forces.

After the completion of military service, he enrolled at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he received his bachelor's degree in history and philosophy. He then received his Dr. phil. in History of the Jewish People in the Islamic country.

He serves on the board of Yad Vashem on, was president of the Worl Union of Jewish Studies and is Vice - President of the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture.

Ben- Sasson lives in Jerusalem, is married and has three children. In addition to Hebrew, he speaks Arabic, English, French and German.

College career

After his post- doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge, he was Professor of History of the Jewish nation at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Between 1997 and 2001 he was Rector of the University and represented the Association of University Heads to the appropriate committees of the Knesset.

Political career

In the 2006 elections to the Knesset Menachem Ben- Sasson was able to gain a seat on the Kadima list. On the list he was placed at number 20 and the Kadima scored 29 mandates. In the first episode was a member and then chairman of the Committee on Constitution, Law and Justice (Chairman of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee).

He also was chairman of the Committee on the Law on Wiretapping and the parliamentary committee of inquiry to the telephone monitoring. In addition, he was still sitting in:

According to the 2009 election he lost his seat in the Knesset.
