Menachem Birnbaum

Menachem Birnbaum (also: Menachem Ash, Acher et al; born March 13, 1893 in Vienna, † probably 1944) was a Jewish book artist, portrait artist and book illustrator.

Life

Birnbaum was the second son of the Jewish writer and activist Nathan Birnbaum and his wife Rosa grain product. He was the brother of Uriel Birnbaum. Birnbaum was married to Ernestine (Tina ) Esther Helfmann. Their children were Rafael Zwi and Hana. Menachem Birnbaum lived from 1911 to 1914 and from 1919 to 1933 in Berlin and worked as a freelance artist, as publishing director of global publishing and Jewish publishers in Berlin. Since 1924, he ran an electric wholesale. In 1933 he emigrated to the Netherlands. Here he was arrested in the spring of 1943 by the Gestapo and probably killed some of his relatives in a concentration camp by the Nazis. Menachem Birnbaum himself suspected in Auschwitz in 1944, Tina, Rafael Zwi and Hana Birnbaum perhaps in Sobibor According to another source, 1943., The family of four died on 13 March 1943 at the Sobibor concentration camp.
