Mendeleyevo Microdistrict

Mendelejewo ( German Juditten ) is a district of Kaliningrad (Königsberg ( Prussia) ).

Name

The original name derived from Old Prussian and describes the landscape " gaudi " ( wistfully ) " juodas " (black, dark ).

History

In 1287 the village was first mentioned as " duas villas sic nominatas Gaudityn ". 1349 it is called " super Villam Gauditin, Gauditen " and 1302 Judynkirchen. The name appears Juditten 1670 in the East Prussian folios. In Juditten the Spittelhof, the farmyard of Hauskomturs was at Konigsberg, the features belonging to the hospital villages were flocking factory charge.

1874 District Juditten from Lawsken, Moditten, Spittelhof, forest valley, the agricultural estates Charlottenburg, Friedrichswalde, United Rathshof, Small Rathshof, Moditten and the establishment Juditten was formed mill. Was managed by the Office of the District Head in Rathshof. On June 16, 1927 Juditten was incorporated in Prussia in the municipality and the urban district of Königsberg.

From the cemetery, there was a good view of the Pregel and the Vistula Lagoon.

Theodor Krohne awarded the Juditter grove, which was named after him.

Church

The Church of Juditten one of the oldest churches of Samland and was built in the late 13th century. Queen Louise has visited this church many times. Because of the " Madonna on the crescent moon ," a picture of Mary with baby Jesus of superhuman size, roughly carved from wood and painted, Juditten was a famous place of pilgrimage before the Reformation. Even after the Reformation came pilgrims from Rome itself, and could be passed by the Lutheran pastor, a certificate stating that they had repented.
