Mendi

Mendi is the capital of the Southern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea.

The city can be reached by Mount Hagen and the Highlands Highway in the northeast or with an airplane over the Mendi Airport. The highway continues to Tari.

Mendi has 17 119 inhabitants ( 2000). The city lies at an altitude of 1,675 m in the valley of the Mendi River, growing in the vegetable and coffee beans, also located near the city of tea plantations. In the resort there are sawmills.

The root of the Mendi lives around the capital, where they fence their traditional one-family gardens.
