Menifee County, Kentucky

Menifee County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Frenchburg, which was named after Judge Richard French. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in the central northeastern Kentucky and has an area of 534 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bath County, Rowan County, Morgan County, Wolfe County, Powell County and Montgomery County.

History

Menifee County was formed on March 10, 1869 from parts of Bath County, Montgomery County, Morgan County, Powell County, and Wolfe County. It was named after Richard Hickman Menefee, a member of the U.S. Congress.
