Menningarnótt

Menningarnótt [ mɛd̥niŋg̥ar̥no͡ʊ ʰ t] ( Isl " Culture Night ") is an annual event in Reykjavik, Iceland's capital. It usually takes place on the first Saturday after the 18th of August. It was founded by the Reykjavík City Council launched in 1996 and has since become one of the biggest events Islands - and thus makes the Icelandic National Day on June 17 competition.

Estimated 100,000 people take part in the annual concerts and celebrations in the center of Reykjavik - a significant proportion of just over 300,000 inhabitants Islands and about 118,000 inhabitants of the city.

The festival usually consists of a main stage in the city center and many small facilities in the center and the outskirts of Reykjavík. The highlight of the event is often a concert on the main stage with some of the most popular bands in Iceland, followed by a large fireworks display.
