Menno Meyjes

Menno W. Meyjes (* 1954 in Bloemendaal, Netherlands) is a Dutch screenwriter and film director.

Biography

Menno W. Meyjes emigrated in 1972 to the United States a. He studied at The Art Institute of California - San Francisco. His breakthrough came when he debuted in The Color Purple in 1985 with the adaptation of a novel by Alice Walker to the film as a screenwriter. He was nominated for an Oscar and British Academy Film Award. After he worked also on screenplays for films such as Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and state of emergency, Meyjes debuted in 2002 with the war drama Max as a film director.

Meyjes was married to Susan Andrews, the daughter of actor Dana Andrews. Currently, he is married to the former ballet dancer Natalie Kohn.
