Mennonite World Conference

The Mennonite World Conference (MWC ) is an international association of 100 Mennonite churches and community organizations, which go back to the radikalreformatorische Anabaptist movement. The Federation 's mission, particularly in promoting the community of Anabaptist churches among themselves and in ecumenism with other Christian churches.

Periodically conferences will be held in the strictest sense. The last global gathering has taken place on the road from 14 to 19 July 2009 under the motto together on the path of Jesus Christ in Asunción in Paraguay. The Assembly in 2009 had more than 5,800 permanent participants. Previously, there had been with the conference in Zimbabwe for the first time a meeting in Africa in 2003. The next meeting will be held in July 2015 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in the United States.

Description

The first Mennonite World Conference was held in Basel in 1925. The conference was held in Zurich 400 years after creation of the first arising during the Reformation Baptist Church. Behind the establishment of the Mennonite World Conference was primarily the German Pastor Christian Neff. In 2000, the Mennonite World Conference celebrated its 75th anniversary.

In addition to the major international conferences every three years, an increased membership meetings are held to which to send the member churches according to the size from one to three delegates. There are also different permanently -scale projects, which are primarily concerned with the issues of peace and development. In commemoration of the establishment of the first Baptist congregation on January 21, 1525 in Zurich, the World Conference calls every year in January to a world community Sunday. The World Fellowship Sunday to remember the common Anabaptist roots and celebrate the global community.

Member churches in German-speaking countries are the Association of Mennonite communities in Germany and the Conference of the Mennonite Switzerland. In addition, there is a close cooperation with the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC ).
