Province

Menongue ( before 1975: Serpa Pinto) is a city in the central south-east of Angola. It is the capital of the province of Cuando Cubango and has about 19,000 inhabitants.

The town is the terminus of the southern railway from Namibe on the Atlantic coast ( " Namibebahn "). There is a road link until after Katwitwi in Namibia.

Named she was until 1975 after the Portuguese explorer Alexandre Alberto da Rocha de Serpa Pinto ( 1846-1900 ), the Southern Africa explored in the second half of the 19th century.

Menongue is the seat of the diocese Menongue.
