Exterior

The Menorca has an average shoulder height of 160 cm, the target set by Stud Mindeststockmaß for stallions is 152 cm. He is of baroque type with an elongated head, straight profile and strong neck. As the only coat color is black accepts the foal brown come to the world. Badges are only accepted if they are of reduced degree.

Interior

Particularly, this breed is suitable because of the slight movements as a dressage horse (but also as jumping, baroque horse and is also used to show). It is claimed, the Minorcans was the only horse that can walk on two legs. Undeniably owns the Menorcans a pronounced predisposition to the Laufcourbette, for which he is bred from time immemorial. In this case, the horse (up to 40 meters wide) moves on its hind legs forward. Sometimes the Menorcans is called aggressive since it tends under less experienced riders without prompting Laufcourbette. In Minorca these horses are used primarily for performances at summer festivals.

Breeding history

The majority opinion assumes that the Minorcans is related to the Arabs, the Portuguese Lusitano and the Berbers. Minorcans be recognized as a separate breed only since 1989 and are approximately 2500 copies worldwide only very little spread. Previously, they were considered sub-race of the Andalusian. Since 2004 there is also a Mallorca Menorca stud.
